There, Matt solidified his enjoyment of criminal law while also realizing that he preferred criminal defense. When not in court, Matt is trying to keep up with his three amazing kids with the support of his wonderful wife, and also tries to see some live music whenever he can.

Monica

FIRM OPERATIONS MANAGER | Mattox Law

A Tennessee native, Monica has called Virginia home since 2006. She graduated from Austin Peay State University with a B.S. in Health & Wellness and has spent more than eighteen years working in management and operations with nonprofit, mental health, and recovery organizations.

She has enjoyed the change in professional venue, bringing her operational expertise into the legal world, where she keeps the firm running smoothly, the details in order, and everyone (mostly) on schedule. She learns something new every day as she continues to grow her career with Trey and the team at Mattox Law.

Outside of work, she continues her love of health and wellness by personal training at the Manchester YMCA and in her spare time enjoys yoga, live music, and any opportunity to see the Dave Matthew’s Band. She has two awesome sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter, Ella, who runs the show.

Alex

Law clerk | Mattox Law

After growing up in the Shenandoah Valley, Alex attended Radford University, and The University of Richmond School of Law. Prior to law school, he spent over a decade in the food service industry slinging burgers and beers, providing customer service and engaging with everyday people in fast-paced environments.

Alex was a law clerk at a prominent criminal defense firm, working on matters ranging from trafficking and homicide to corporate embezzlement in both state and federal levels. His academic focus included cybercrime, surveillance, artificial intelligence, SEC enforcement, and securities.

The lifecycle of a criminal matter can be scary and confusing for the average person; he prides himself on breaking down complex issues in to terms the average person can understand. After sitting for the Virginia bar exam, he will bring that same client-forward approach with him into law.

Outside the office, Alex enjoys snowboarding, hiking, CrossFit, rock shows, Taco Tuesday, trivia night, and nerding out on Lord of The Rings and Star Wars. As a new father, he intends to lay down roots in the community through volunteering, uplifting those in recovery, and engaging with incarcerated populations.
